How it works
The 8BitDo Pro 2 is a versatile retro-modern pad whose behaviour changes completely with the physical mode switch on its back. The number-one testing mistake is leaving it in the wrong mode, which scrambles the entire button layout in the browser.
How to connect your 8BitDo Pro 2
USB-C or Bluetooth. The mode switch on the back matters: X mode (Xbox layout) works best in browsers; S mode pairs as a Switch pad.
How the 8BitDo Pro 2 maps in your browser
Set the back switch to X mode for a clean Xbox-style standard layout in browsers. S mode makes it enumerate as a Switch Pro pad (different indices), and D mode uses DirectInput. If the layout looks jumbled, that is the mode switch, not a fault — flip to X and reconnect.
Thumbstick type and drift risk
Standard potentiometer sticks on the base Pro 2 (a separate Hall-effect edition exists). Know which you own before blaming drift on the sensor.

Troubleshooting connections
- Nothing appears: press any button first; if still hidden, try another USB port or re-pair Bluetooth and reload.
- Layout doesn't match your pad: unknown models fall back to a generic view, but every button and axis is still shown by index — you can fully test it.
- Vibration does nothing: rumble over the web works on Chromium browsers with most Xbox and DualSense pads; Safari and Firefox have limited or no support.
If the sticks jitter beyond a couple of percent at rest, run the dedicated controller drift test for a measured verdict.
