How it works
The EC2 is the CS legend that deliberately ships with no software at all: DPI, polling rate and click response are set with physical buttons. That removes every software failure mode from diagnosis — if something misbehaves in this tester, it is hardware, full stop.

Known issues on the Zowie EC2
Zowie chose Huano switches partly because they resist double-clicking better than Omrons, and EC2 click faults are indeed rarer — but the stiff scroll wheel is the trade-off owners complain about: loud, heavy detents that can start skipping after years. The rubber-like coating on older units gets sticky in humid climates. Because there's no software, a worn cable can only be diagnosed physically.

Sensor and tracking
Move the pointer smoothly across the arena. Jumps, stutters or a cursor that won't reach the edges point to a dirty sensor lens, a bad surface (glossy or glass), or a failing sensor. Wipe the lens, try a proper mousepad, and re-test before blaming the hardware.
Troubleshooting
› Right-click opens a menu instead of registering
The test arena suppresses the context menu while your pointer is inside it. If a menu still opens, click once inside the arena first so it has focus.
› Buttons 4 and 5 don’t register
Browser support for side buttons varies, and some mice map them to Back/Forward at driver level. Try disabling gestures in your mouse software, then test again.
