How it works
This Xbox controller test works with every generation of Xbox pad — Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and the Elite series — plus third-party XInput controllers from PowerA, Razer, SCUF and others. Connect the pad to your PC or Mac, press any button to wake the browser's Gamepad API, and every button, trigger, analog stick and (on Chromium browsers) vibration motor is shown live. Nothing is installed and nothing leaves your device.
How to test an Xbox controller on PC
- Wired: plug in the cable — USB-C for Series and Elite 2 pads, micro-USB for Xbox One, standard USB for wired 360 pads. Windows recognizes all of them natively.
- Xbox Wireless: use the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows, hold the controller's Pair button until the Xbox logo flashes, then press the adapter's button.
- Bluetooth: supported on Series X|S, Elite 2 and post-2016 Xbox One pads (model 1708+). Hold the Pair button, then add the pad from your OS Bluetooth settings.
- Xbox 360 wireless: there is no Bluetooth on the 360 pad — to test a wireless 360 controller on PC you need the dedicated Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver. Wired 360 pads just plug in.
What to check
Press every face button, bumper and trigger and confirm each registers once — no misses, no doubles. Pull the triggers slowly and watch the analog value sweep smoothly from 0 to 1. Then take your hands off the sticks: the crosshairs should sit at center. A constant offset at rest is stick drift — the most common Xbox controller fault — and the dedicated controller drift test gives you an automated verdict with a severity percentage in 10 seconds. Finally, run the circularity test by rolling each stick around its rim to quantify wear.

Troubleshooting connections
- Nothing appears: press any button first; if still hidden, try another USB port or re-pair Bluetooth and reload.
- Layout doesn't match your pad: unknown models fall back to a generic view, but every button and axis is still shown by index — you can fully test it.
- Vibration does nothing: rumble over the web works on Chromium browsers with most Xbox and DualSense pads; Safari and Firefox have limited or no support.
If the sticks jitter beyond a couple of percent at rest, run the dedicated controller drift test for a measured verdict.
Troubleshooting
› My controller is connected but nothing shows
Browsers hide gamepads until you press a button — press any button once. If it still doesn’t appear, try a different USB port or re-pair Bluetooth, then reload the page.
› Vibration test does nothing
Vibration via the browser works on Chromium browsers with most Xbox and DualSense pads. Safari and Firefox have limited or no support — that is a browser limitation, not your controller.
› The layout doesn’t match my controller
Unknown models fall back to a generic layout. Every button and axis is still shown by index, so you can fully test the pad even without a matching picture.

› Why do axis numbers jitter slightly at rest?
Analog sticks always have a little electrical noise, typically under 1–2%. Constant offsets beyond that suggest drift — run the dedicated drift test.
› Can I test controller vibration?
Yes, on Chromium-based browsers with supported pads. Click the vibration button; if nothing happens, your browser or pad doesn’t expose rumble to the web.
